Prologue of the exhibition at the Museo Jauretche del Banco Provincia, 2008
The world Graciela Ieger shows us today may seem obvious and commonplace. When we enter that world, however, it capsizes. The inanimate comes to life while people become inanimate.
The artist believes she is showing an outdoor landscape. Yet nothing in these urban images could be more intimate or interior. Walls, streets, buildings - none speak of locations or spaces. They are all about time. Cities are not places, they are a language. The figures present, whether in or out of the shadows, are finiteness. Walls and buildings, permanence.
We are overcome by the strange, inner beauty emanating from each mysterious brush stroke. A beauty which questions but gives no answers.
Graciela Ieger has summoned herself to this meeting. She has not failed to attend. Neither have we. As witnesses. As accomplices.
